Benefit Play Premieres this Friday

June 2, 2009

Give Us Bread, a play based on the 1917 Food Riots, premieres this Friday.

The Anthropologists, a company of artists dedicated to the creation of investigative, socially relevant, and engaging theatrical work, examines today’s globally-scaled food crisis through the lens of the New York food riots of 1917 in their newest play, Give Us Bread.

The premiere is Friday night, June 5th at 7:30 PM, followed by the opening of art exhibit, Gatherers of Scattered Goods, a reception with catering by Rice Restaurants and dessert bar by Wine Cellar Sorbets at the Milagro Theater in the Lower East Side.

Aside from conducting an amazing research blog to substantiate their production and producing a play that illuminates the very issues the Coalition confronts, we’re also excited to promote this play because a portion of the opening night proceeds will benefit the Coalition!

NYCCAH staff will be at each performance this weekend, so if you’re in the City we encourage you to meet us and engage in an interesting and entertaining  production. Also, check out the events that are part of their “Food Riot Project,” which includes a discussion with Executive Director, Joel Berg, on the progress we’ve made – and haven’t made – in fighting hunger after Saturday night’s performance.
